This collection features exceptionally well-preserved classical and flamenco guitars crafted in the renowned José Ramirez III workshop during the 1960s and 1970s.
The Ramirez family has spent nearly 150 years refining the art of Spanish guitar making, with each generation—José I through José III—contributing significant advances.
José III, in particular, modernized the concert guitar with innovations, such as the cedar soundboard, extended fingerboard, and reimagined bracing and body size.
Andrés Segovia famously performed on Ramirez guitars throughout his later career, helping solidify the brand’s global reputation.
These instruments represent a pivotal era in classical guitar history, combining traditional Spanish craftsmanship with bold innovations that reshaped the design of concert guitars.
Other important luthiers represented in our collection include, but are not limited to, Hernandez, Esteso, Barbero, and Hauser II.
Addressing the Ramirez “Gold” Label.
The so-called “Segovia Model” Ramirez guitars featured a “gold” label.
In a 1983 letter, Ramirez allegedly stated that the "Segovia" gold labels were applied by U.S. distributor Jim Sherry without permission, over standard 1a (blue label) and 2a (red label) guitars, thereby making the “Segovia Model” a marketing concept rather than a distinct build.
While these events are unconfirmed and predate my time at Sherry-Brener Ltd., I acknowledge the controversy and aim to be transparent. For that reason, I have clearly differentiated pricing between the 1a and 2a models, not because of any detectable difference in quality, but to ensure clarity and fairness.
